Max spent fifteen years as a sign painter and airbrush muralist, much of it pinstriping and doing custom paint for automobiles... work that made tattooing a natural next step when Tom Slick of Deluxe Tattoo in Portland asked him to join the shop in the summer of 1992.
Since then he's picked up experience across a run of well-regarded shops: two years at Mao y Kathy Tatuaje in Madrid, Spain, time at Hart & Huntington Tattoo in Hawaii, and the Picture Machine in San Francisco. He's settled in Chico now, tattooing at Eye of Jade alongside his ongoing work in other corners of the art world.
